Note that this recipe requires an electric pressure cooker.
Steel cut oats are a pretty low effort high reward breakfast. I try to throw everything into the instant pot as I’m waking up so it’s finished by the time I’m dressed.
This recipe was originally taken from this blog post. I’ve found its liquid-to-oat ratio yields my favorite consistency, but would recommend experimenting to find what you like.
- 1/3 cup steel-cut oats
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/3 cup milk (oat, soy, almond, whatever)
- 1.5 tsp brown sugar, maple syrup, agave, or cane sugar
- 1/4-1/2 tsp of cinnamon
- Banana slices
- Chopped walnuts
- Shredded coconut
- Combine oats, water, milk, and brown sugar in instant pot and stir. Cook on high pressure for 10 minutes. Quick release once the time is up.
- Spoon into a bowl, add toppings and enjoy.
